My last name may be Starling, but sometimes I feel like a magpie.

Maybe you’ve felt the feeling? You’re toddling merrily along working on a lovely project that’s coming along swimmingly and then… Oh, but look at this new thing! So exciting, so interesting, and oh, what a wonderous rabbit hole to go spend days exploring!

One’s muse can be a capricious thing indeed, but if one is brave enough to follow where she leads, what amazing things there are to discover.

Much like the magpie, I’ve collected a number of hobbies and interests over the years with one leading into the next. A love of Jane Austen led me to English Country dance which, in turn, lead me to the world of historical dress.

And that’s really just a few of them. Truly, you would be shocked by the mishmash of subjects that span my bookshelf and workroom.

(Or perhaps not. I find that there are more of us magpies out there than it often seems at first glance…).

But among all of those interests there are two that unify them all – Writing and History.
